SBH Youth Information
Sephardic Religious SchoolThe Sephardic Religious School is a supplementary school co-sponsored by Sephardic Bikur Holim Congregation, Congregation Ezra Bessarot and the SAMIS Foundation to provide Jewish education to those families who do not choose Day School Jewish education. These congregations represent those Jewish families who have immigrated to Seattle from Turkey, Greece, Morocco, Rhodes and Spain. Sephardic Religious School is the only "Sephardic" school serving the Greater Seattle Jewish Community. (The Seattle Sephardic community is the third largest in the United States.) The Sephardic Religious School utilizes the Stroum Jewish Community Center classrooms and serves the children of both synagogues as well as families with other synagogue affiliations or no synagogue affiliation. Our Sephardic culture is a rich culture that goes back in history over five hundred years. It is imperative that the Sephardic Religious Scholl transmit to our future generations its rich culture and heritage. Our purpose is to educate our children in Sephardic culture through a dual curriculum - Judaic Studies and Hebrew - and enrichment programming. The dual curriculum and enrichment programming helps the children to develop an appreciation for the rich heritage they will carry on. We continue to supplement the parents, as the child's primary Jewish educator and utilize parents as resources that can contribute to our children's Jewish education at school. Our Sephardic Religious School High School Youth Program (SASSY) provides our Sephardic High Scholl youth with an opportunity to help them grow and associate within our traditional Sephardic Judaism. The Sephardic High School Youth Program serves Sephardic High School youth by providing social and educational opportunities regardless of affiliation and level of religious observance and welcomes other Jewish High School youth in the Greater Seattle area. SAC- Sephardic Adventure Overnight CampThis overnight camp experience has been the cooperative effort of both Sephardic synagogues, for over forty years. For at least ten days during the summer over 60 children participate in a rich Sephardic experience in an Orthodox setting. Children make friendships that last a lifetime, and for years talk about the meaningfulness of this yearly, well-attended event. Camp Scholarships Available

SAC- 2010SAC 2009 was where 160 of our campers and staff connected with past and the result was a unique Sephardic camping experience, with fun, excitement and oh, by the way, a visitors day. Back in time at SAC 09, was our theme this year and the campers enjoyed looking back into the SAC past as well as meeting some of the Sephardic Adventure Camp Legends. The theme culminated with our Legends Day program, which was a visitor's day for parents, community members and SAC past campers/staff. It was attended by over 200 guests who made the drive to camp and enjoyed a lunch, sponsored by the Alcabes Family, with programming that included music, waterfront activities, sports and a carnival. All programming was sponsored by The Ezra Bessaroth Endowment Fund. This was truly a special day in SAC history, as it was the first time in many years that we had a visitor's day. Thank you to everyone who participated, it was a great day and part of many fantastic days at SAC. We would like to thank the Sephardic Adventure Camp Board of Directors for their dedication to our camp. Each
member brings different qualities that add to the success of SAC. The members are: Michael Benoliel, Leah Gladstein,
Simon Amiel, Cynthia Gamel, Sue Cohen and Joy Maimon. We would also like to thank Rabbi Simon Benzaquen, Rabbi
Salomon Cohen-Scali and Rabbi Benjamin Owen for their involvement, consultation and support. We assembled a
fun and exciting staff this year and we appreciate their hard work. They care deeply for SAC and for all the
campers. They were incredible, and we hope to have them return next year. We at SAC know that our community camp, which provides such a wonderful experience, would not be possible without the involvement and support of so many people and organizations in our community. We would like to offer our heartfelt appreciation to all those who donated their time, money and effort towards making SAC 2009 the success that it was. We thank our SAC partners for all that they do for us and appreciate their interest and continued support. The names are listed below.
